Cleaning the Restroom(s)

  1. Protect Yourself – Always start by putting on the proper personal protective equipment.
  2. “Knock and Block”
    1.  “Knock” on the door and announce that you are about to begin restroom cleaning procedures.
    1. Check the restroom for any guests. Make sure that there is no one inside before entering. 
    1. Once you have made sure that no one is left in the restroom, “block” entry to the restroom by posting “wet-floor” sign outside the entry/exit doors.
  3. Refill Dispensers & Empty Trash Receptacles
    1. Empty all sanitary napkin bins and trash receptacles.
    1. Apply disinfectant to inside of trash receptacle before replacing the liner and allow to air dry.
  4. Dust
    1. Working from top to bottom, dust the above-the-floor surfaces.
    1. Sweep the floor starting from the innermost corner to the door.
  5. Clean Toilets
    1. Remove any debris from in and around the toilet.
    1. Flush the toilet to make sure it is clear and working properly.
    1. Clean interior of toilet.
  6. Apply cleaner/disinfectant to all high-touch point areas including:
    1. Toilets
    1. Sinks
    1. Dispensers
    1. Door handles
  7. Spot clean bathroom walls to remove visible soils.
  8. Wipe Mirrors/Glass Areas
  9. Mop
    1. Check to make sure all dirt and loose soil were removed when sweeping in step 4.
    1. Wet mop the floor starting from the innermost corner to the door
  10. Inspect your work and report any repairs or damage as needed.
  11. Return all equipment, materials, and supplies to their storage areas.
    1. Make sure you clean and maintain any equipment before returning it to storage.
    1. Check to make sure the area is dry before removing wet floor signs. Wet floors that are opened too early to your guests are hazardous and can lead to slips, falls, and other injuries.
