Games. Fun. Community. Inclusive. Nerdvana. These are all words that describe the woman-owned game/hobby/gift store called Free Range Pumpkins… Arlington’s Favorite Local Game Store!
Tell us about your business. What inspired you to get into it, what you sell, what makes your business stand out and how it impacts you, your community or the environment.
Free Range Pumpkins is a game/hobby/gift shop located in Arlington Texas.
We carry unique items not usually found in comic/game shops. (Not many game stores sell perfume and cologne… but we do!)
You have to see it to believe it!
- We have friendly, knowledgeable staff who love what they do and where they do it
- We have an excellent, somewhat eclectic game selection of both new and used games.
- Our play area isn’t just a place to play your favorite game. It is a hub for our community, a safe space for nerds of all kinds to come together and talk about things they are passionate about, to play games, and to share ideas.
- We offer several Organized Play events for many different games.
- We don’t just have a few demo copies of current games for people to play, we have a demo game wall that includes new and old games that our customers love to play!
- We offer a variety of snacks and beverages for our customers.
- We carry toys, clothing and collectible items to complement the games we provide.
Where did the name come from? The owner Amy and her husband Herb, have an irreverent sense of humor. One day they were musing about the term, “free range” and wondered what would happen if they marketed a pumpkin as “free range.” Would anyone buy one? Well, it turns out that not only would people buy the pumpkins, but they loved the name!
We have formed a welcoming, open, inclusive community of players who all love to play various tabletop games. Our players range in age from 13 to 65. They encourage and help each other through all aspects of the games they play. We support all of our players, new and old, by taking the time to answer questions, show examples, introduce new concepts or even just make new friends. Our store hosts several Role-Playing Games, casual and tournament games throughout the week. We also have a wide selection of demo games available for free play every day.
How would you use the FedEx Small Business Grant money to make a significant impact on your business?
We are currently in a warehouse in Arlington Texas. We have outgrown our store and it is now time to move and expand. This is an exciting time for Free Range Pumpkins and our community. We have found a new location that is 10 minutes from our present site but lack the funds to finish and fit it out. We would also use the grant to begin carrying new lines of products… paints, brushes, miniatures, etc. With this move, becoming Arlington’s Premium Gaming Store is no longer a pipedream, it can become a reality!
How would you use the FedEx Print Services to make a significant impact on your business?
We would use the FedEx Print Services to create a cohesive message and image of our brand across various marketing channels.
