Receiving Inventory

  1. BEFORE THE CARRIER LEAVES
    1. Inspect the shipping boxes for damage
    1. Inspect the boxes to be sure they have not been opened
    1. IF the boxes appear damaged or look as if they have been opened, have the carrier make a note in their system
    1. Take photos of damaged/open boxes, including the shipping label, and text them to XXX
  2. Sort boxes by supplier
  3. Open the boxes for one supplier at a time.
  4. Look for a packing slip.  If there is more than one page, staple them together.
  5. Break down each box and stack them in a designated area to be brought to the dumpster.
  6. Keep all other packing materials… put away in designated storage areas.
  7. Check that all of the items on the packing slip were shipped.
  8. Using a highlighter, mark the items received on the packing slip.
  9. If any items are damaged:
    1. Make a note on the packing slip
    1. Take photos of the damages, including the packing slip, and text them to XXX
  10. Sign and date the packing slip.
  11. Place the packing slip on your manager’s desk.
  12. Repeat this process for each supplier’s shipment.
  13. Scan each item that has come in (using a barcode scanner) to look up the price.
  14. If an item does not scan, set it aside for your manager.
  15. Price each item and either put out on the floor or pack away in the stock room.

  1. Open Shopify https://free-range-pumpkins.myshopify.com/admin
  2. Select “Products” on the left.  Then click “Transfers”
  3. Click the transfer number that corresponds to the packing slip you have.
  4. Click Receive items at the bottom of the page.
  • For each item, click All or enter the number of items that you’ve received in the Accept column.
  • Click the … button and enter the number of items that you need to reject (damaged items, for example) or cancel. The quantity of the items will adjust accordingly.
  • If you’ve received extra items from your supplier, then you can specify a greater number of items than you expected in the Accept column.
  • Click Save.
  • Sign and date the packing slip.  Stamp with the “entered” stamp.
  • Repeat for each shipment.
  • Put On Amy or Herb’s desk to be filed.
